Berberidaceae
Not a very large but interesting family with lots of ornamental species. In many cases the seeds are hydrophilic (require moist storage) and/or have immature embryos; not the easiest plants to grow from seeds, but well worth it.
In case of the seeds with elaiosomes, they can only be noticed in very fresh seeds. After moist storage they ‘disappear’ and the seeds coats mature so it can be an entirely different look of the seeds depending when one takes pictures (see Epimedium, Jeffersonia).
