The European ginger is a gorgeous plant for part shade to shady areas, with shiny, rounded leaves in a very compact growth. The red flowers are also showy but not very visible, appearing at the ground level.
Use it as a groundcover, or scattered clumps at the edge of the woodland garden; the foliage provides a wonderful backdrop for many other species.
Germination: if you need to cover a large area, growing from seeds is the best choice for Asarum. Best sown fresh or throughout the summer with seeds kept moist. It needs a warm/ cold cycle to germinate.
