Like all the other milkweeds, this is a magnet for the pollinators! It is especially preferred by Monarch and Swallowtail butterflies. Swamp milkweed grows up to 1.5 m and has fragrant, pinkish-purple, flowers in terminal clusters from June to August. They will be followed by large pods containing fluffy seeds.
In the gardens it does well around ponds or other locations with a good amount of moisture; also very good for wetland restorations.
Germination: best if sown outside in the fall or in the spring after a period of cold-moist stratification (at least one month).
