A beautiful, hardy lotus with light yellow flowers and large leaves that will reach 60 cm in diameter or more.
It’s a colonizer aquatic species so definitely not for a small pond, especially in warm regions. In zone 5 it has to be planted in deep water so the roots won’t froze, or lifted and stored in a cool location over the winter.
Germination: like all lotus sp. the seeds have an extremely hard seedcoat and require scarification before sowing; in a shallow water pan until they germinate and then can be transferred in a large pot with no drainage hole for the first year. You can see in the gallery a young plant I grew, with the first floating leaf :)
