The Shinleaf is an evergreen woodland perennial plant with a spike of white, large, nodding flowers in late June; very handsome. The shiny leaves are arranged in a rosette.
Germination: difficult to grow from seeds because plants are partial myco-heterotrophs. The seeds are very small, sand-like, resembling orchid seeds and require a specific mycorrhizal fungus for germination.
Often can be found in the same areas where Chimaphila grows, so they may use the same fungus species.
