The Carolina rose is a native rose with large, simple, fragrant, pink flowers followed by large, red hips. It can grow anywhere between 1 and 2 m. It has good resistance to the common rose problem diseases like black spot, rust and powdery mildew. New stems have a reddish colour and are usually smooth.
Flowers are enjoyed by pollinators and later the hips by birds. A most beautiful native rose for a flower border, naturalized areas or in an informal hedge. It prefers moist soils but will tolerate dry situations and light shade.
Germination: after cold-moist stratification; also scarification prior to sowing will improve the germination.
