Description
The Fringed sedge is a robust species which forms dense clumps of glossy, strap shaped leaves. I have a better picture somewhere but cannot find it.
The flowering stems display gray-green fringe-like spikelets that move graciously in the wind.
Excellent species for moist/wet locations, also on clay soils, wetland restorations and other naturalization projects.
As part of a ‘native moist group’, grow it with Carex grayi, Iris versicolor, Lobelia cardinalis, Asclepias incarnata, Eupatorium and other such species.
Germination: sow in late fall (cold/moist stratification).
