Description
Illinois Bundle flower is a perennial plant with mimosa-like foliage and white, globular flowers in June/July. The clusters of green pods have a ‘flowery’ appearance, later they became brown.
I think it is an interesting plant to mix in a flower bed; the fine foliage has a tropical look and will become for sure a conversation subject especially in colder climate gardens. It is also useful for meadow restoration projects. Could be short lived in a cold climate.
Like all Fabaceae species, it is a nitrogen fixing plant. Research has also been done regarding the food uses of the seeds. Also, the root bark has been found to contain various substances similar to those used in mix preparation of hallucinogenic drinks.
Germination: warm germinator; light scarification with sandpaper or soaking the seeds in hot water will improve the germination. Hot water treatment can also be tried.
