Description
It is the first year my Hepatica transsilvanica flowered well and so I can share seeds for other Hepatica enthusiasts. I was very happy when I received fresh seeds from which I grew this mother-plants, and I hope other people will be happy in return.
With the very large deep blue flower in early spring (rarely white or pink), this is my favorite, a truly a wonderful Hepatica! Also one of the first species to start flowering in the spring.
It is the only Hepatica rhizomatous species, you can take out divisions after a while, and/or use it to form a nice carpet. It was slower to grow and flower for me which may be because of its rhizomatous nature, needing more time to get established.
Otherwise, very tolerant and easy in the garden once it gets going.
Germination
In general, Hepatica seeds may all germinate in the first spring after sowing, or they may germinate after one more year, or a combination of both. It is necessary to take care of the pots during all this time! The first flower can appear after 3-4 years.
