Description
Seeds collected from a specimen with bright violet flowers, distinct from the bluish form similar with the wild species.
Like all other colors spring-vetches, a most useful and beautiful perennial that emerges in early spring and then gets covered in myriads of pea-like flowers enjoyed by the first queen bumblebees.
It grows well in full sun and also in part-shaded positions, in which case it will remain in flower for a longer period of time.
With Lathyrus vernus the only question is what colors to grow in the garden. The answer is: all that are available! I am still looking for the white flowered form.
Still a very much underused perennial, and for no good reason.
Germination: sow in the fall or early spring; the seeds require scarification (sand papering works just fine).
