Description
This season Paeonia officinalis ssp. huthii produced enough seeds to be offered for the first time.
This subspecies has a native range from S. France to NW Italy, and there are only slight differences from the other P. officinalis form on offer, but it has been grown from seeds of sure origin, so it is best to offer it separate. Keep in mind that garden cultivated plants are of course open pollinated.
All else similar for P. officinalis: excellent plant to include in the flower border or even used in groups; drought resistant. After flowering the foliage will provide a long decor. Best in part-shade.
Germination: if sown fresh in very early fall, Peony seeds will germinate readily. If not, they will need a warm/moist period followed by a cold/moist period for complete germination. So, it may take 2 years for the first leaves to appear.
