Description
A Crimean endemic, with gray-green foliage and white flowers. It remains in a clump with woody stems at the base; it will branch well if trimmed or damaged.
One of those species that you never dream it will grow in your garden; and then it proves you wrong. For a spot in the rockery with excellent drainage (sharp sand) and full sun.
I am still amazed that one seedling grew up well and survived for about 5 years in our climate. The snow coverage in the winter helps (I cover it with spruce branches if it gets very cold without snowing).
Luckily, it is very easy to grow it again from seeds, as opposed with other precious rockery species.
Germination: warm germinator, easy, like many other Silene species. The mother plant was grown from a very small sample of seeds (meaning 3-5 seeds, sometimes is all you need).
