Description
We previously offered seeds from Streptopus amplexifolius specimens with red fruits. It was a nice surprise to find plants also with very large, dark, almost black fruits this year in BC.
The other characters are just the same; branched stems with a zig-zagged look, clasping the stems and bell shaped white/cream flowers on twisted stalks.
The young shoots, the berries and the roots are edible; medicinal usage. An excellent addition to the woodland garden. Grow it together with Trilliums, Uvularia, Maianthemum, Disporum…
Germination: the seeds are best sown fresh and allowed a slightly warm/moist stratification period (fall) followed by a cold period (winter). Grow for 2-3 years in the same pot.
When sowed too late in the winter, it will take 2 years to germinate and probably in lower percentage.
