Description
The hooked-spur violet is an early flowering violet with blue, solitary flowers (common name from the slightly hooked nectar spur). The stems are lacking in spring but as the season progresses will develop aerial stems up to 10 cm tall; it grows from a rhizome.
This species has a wide distribution and it can present variable characters, depending on the growing region. Lucky that I finally caught some seeds, but I don’t have a picture with the flowers – they resemble those of the little V. adunca var. bellidifolia.
Germination: cold/moist stratification; sow in late fall/early winter.
