Description
The Heartleaf aster is an excellent native plant for shaded areas with many branched inflorescences bearing light blue-lavender (occasionally whitish) flowers in late summer. The nectar and pollen of the flower heads attract various bee species, wasps and butterflies.
The height can vary greatly depending on the substrate it grows on. The foliage takes beautiful reddish hues in very late fall in sunny locations (after the trees shed their leaves).
Germination: sow in late fall/early winter (cold-moist stratification).
