Description
The Marsh mallow is a well- known medicinal plant that has been in use since ancient times (the roots).
It is still employed in wildflowers and medicinal garden around the world and has also escaped from cultivation in many regions.
All parts of the plants contain a mucilaginous substance and can be use culinary; as well extracts of the roots have edible and medicinal usage. Alas, it seems the commercial marshmallows only retained their name although they do not longer contain marsh mallow root extract.
The wild form has light pink flowers; there are cultivars with flowers in many other shades nowadays. Although it prefers a moist substrate, it adapts well to less than ideal substrates.
Germination: the seeds will germinate at warm after a light scarification. They may germinate without scarification but after a longer period. You can also cold/moist stratify them for one month to ensure even, rapid germination.
