Description
The harebell is a most delicate Campanula usually found growing on rocky, exposed areas along the shorelines. From a basal rosette of round leaves, appear delicate flowering stems bearing clusters of blue bell-shaped flowers which tremble at the slightest breeze.
Greatly under-utilized, as beautiful and long flowering as many as other more ‘fancy’ Campanula.
This species has a great plasticity and adapts very well to almost any situation, from full sun to part-shade and dry to moist substrate.
In North America there are a few distinct morphotypes, and a revision of the naming in undergoing. However, for now it is best to stick with C. rotundifolia naming the collection site. Please read a lengthy explanation: Campanula rotundifolia complex.
Germination: cold-moist stratification. Seeds are very fine and need to be sown very superficial because they require light to germinate.
Update: germination in +/- 10 days at about 18C., so warm germinator (at least the seeds from this lot).
