Description
The Judas tree doesn’t differ much from our Eastern Redbud (C. canadensis) except some detail of the leaves and larger rose-purplish flowers.
The most important difference comes in regard with the hardiness zone; at limit in zone 6 (maybe in a sheltered corner) and most likely to be able to grow it successfully in zone 7.
So, in Canada I would try it only in the Niagara region and on the Western Coast.
Germination: is a bit different – it requires a period of cold/moist stratification of 16 weeks/4C according with various studies (after the same scarification like C. canadensis seeds – also dipping the seeds into hot water will lead to fissures in the seed coat and allow water absorption).
