Description
The Roundleaf dogwood is a medium-tall shrub growing up to 3 m tall (usually less). It has wide, orbicular leaves and white flowers in flat clusters in the spring followed by attractive whitish to blue fruits on reddish stalks, appreciated by birds. The fall foliage will have mixed shades of red, purple and orange.
It is rarely seen in culture although it has a good size for a city garden and it is shade tolerant. Also great be used for naturalizations and wildlife habitats.
Germination: the best germination results for most Cornus species are obtained when freshly collected seeds (stones actually) are sown in the fall as soon as possible (meaning a slightly warm /moist stratification followed by a cold/moist stratification). In this case, most species will germinate in the spring; even so, there may be cases when seeds do not germinate until the second spring. The seeds can be also sown directly ‘in situ’.
