Description
Poverty oatgrass is a grass that thrives on infertile dry sandy or rocky soils – perfect for growing it in a rockery, screes and xeric gardens!
Excellent for naturalizations projects of dry, eroded, poor substrates.
It is a small size, cool season grass with dense tufted, fine foliage; bluish green in the season and later buff and curly at the base of the clumps. The flowering stems have narrow panicles with 2-13 spikelets. It expands slowly from short rhizomes.
Germination: the germination is stimulated in the wild after disturbance and/or burnings, often acting as a pioneer species. So, in ‘normal’ sowing conditions, germination may be a bit difficult.
Sow in late fall/winter and keep the pots outside for the winter; the germination may be improved by scarification before sowing.
