Description
I first time grew this toadflax from a seeds exchange where it was mistakenly donated as L. alpina; it happens all the time. The plants obtained seemed to belong to the L. aeruginea ‘Lindeza Violet’ cultivar.
It proved to be a very nice and easy plant for the garden, so it remains a regular, especially that it grows well in difficult, dry locations.
It blooms almost non-stop during the summer with spikes of small snapdragon-like flowers. I also like the bluish, fine foliage which stays nice late into the fall and early winter, much like a Pseudofumaria. It will reseed around; this can be viewed as a plus in some situations 😉or shear the flowering stems in late summer to prevent self-sowing.
Germination: warm, easy germinator. A species for our ‘easy to germinate’ plants list that will also flower in the first year when started early from seeds. Most of the seedlings will have deep-purple/violet flowers, but color variations are also possible.
