Description
An alpine flax species with large, bright yellow flowers in May-June. I first had the chance to see in the Pirin Mts. and after that I wanted it!
It grows in a clump with leaves in basal rosettes and flower stems with inflorescences of bright yellow flowers.
It is happy in a full sun location with good drainage (but not dry). It looks amazing combined with blue Penstemond, Veronica, Phyteuma or other such species in a large rockery, perennial front border.
One can tell it is not often cultivated by the fact it doesn’t have a common name yet ;-) We can call it the obvious – Large flowered yellow flax.
Germination: cold/moist stratification requires; sow in late fall.
