Description
A most beautiful herbaceous peony with single, deep red, cup-shaped flowers and a boss of yellow stamens. A wonder to have in your garden, it flowers in May-June depending on location.
It is not difficult to grow and does well in part-sun to full sun locations (in very hot areas, grow it in part-shade); good drainage and calcareous soils are required.
Germination: if sown fresh in late summer/very early fall, the seeds will germinate readily (roots only). Then the first shoots appear in the spring after the cold stratification period (winter).
If sowed at any other time, keep in mind that the seeds need first a warm/moist period followed by a cold/moist period for complete germination. So, you can use moist bags stratification or wait 2 years for the first leaves to appear. Please read more about germinating peonies on the Germination page.
