Description
A hardy, perennial poppy with large deep red flowers with a black spot at the base. Not as much cultivated as P. orientale with which is very similar. The garden picture shows most probably a P. orientale, (usually red toward orange); P. bracteatum has vivid red flowers like seen in the gallery.
Beautiful in flower borders or by itself; full sun and well drained garden location.
Germination: warm germinator; can be sown ‘in situ’ in late spring/summer and retain later just few of the bigger seedlings. It can start to flower in the second year.
