Description
A tiny, tufted Violet with white flowers and purple lines on the petals. I grew it for fun and in the idea to have a New Zealand species in my garden. Unfortunately, I can’t tell how hardy it is in open ground. We’ll see next spring….
Update 2021-2022: this species is hardy to zone 5, no doubt about it, only that is starting to grow quite late in the spring.
And it certainly needs a moist/shaded location to thrive. Grown in a too dry location it won’t flower.
It is always fun to grow and thus learn about new species, and if they set seeds then even better. The perpetuation is assured :)
For a shaded/relatively moist shaded spot; a collectors item.
Germination: best sown in the fall/early winter (or in the spring after providing cold-moist stratification).
