Description
The Labrador violet has scented flowers in shades of lilac with purple veins and it flowers in the spring, at the same time with Viola pubescens. Other woodland companions are: Hepatica americana, Uvularia grandiflora, Thalictrum dioicum, Carex rosea, to mention just a few.
Like in the case of other violets, the flowers and leaves are edible; various birds enjoy the seeds and it is a source for the Fritillary butterflies.
Germination: best sown in the fall/early winter (or in the spring after providing cold-moist stratification).
