Description
This plant looks like a Leucojum on steroids and it flowers in late August-September (in Ontario). Each mature bulb will produces in succession several flowering stems bearing lots of large, fragrant, white flower bells. You can create amazing colour combinations with Galtonia for the late summer flowering display!
Unusual in our region, but thanks to gardeners who don’t believe everything that’s being said about the hardiness, we now have seeds from plants happily growing and thriving in zone 5. And if some of these so-considered ‘hardy marginal species’ in zone 5 have survived our last two winters, then it’s perhaps the time to re-classify them!
Germination: fresh seeds sown at room temperature should germinate in about a month (if not, provide a few weeks of cold). The young seedlings should be grown with some protection for the first couple of years.
