Description
Clematis alpina it is one of the earliest spring flowering Clematis, adorned with large, blue flowers. The fluffy seed heads are also very attractive.
By pruning it after flowering you can keep it in a smaller size and even grow it in a container.
Grow it on a small trellis or let it hang over a tall shrub, or drape a stone wall. Easy going and requiring no maintenance. Best in a part-shade location, especially in a hot summer climate.
For a color combo, pair it with Clematis occidentalis, another spring flowering species.
Germination: cold/moist stratification; sow in the fall/early winter, or place the seeds in moist towel in the fridge and watch for the germination.
