Description
I never hoped to see the Canyon larkspur to flower in my garden but it happened! One more reason to not pay much attention to the climate ‘zones’; with marginal hardy species it is all about getting the right garden location, which most often is happening by chance.
This dainty larkspur with brilliant orange flowers is pollinated by the hummingbirds; the leaves are mainly basal.
It grows from a rhizome so do not expect flowers too fast. Grow the seedlings for 2 years in a pot, then plant outdoors in a location to sun to part-shade/rather moist (but well drained) and hope for the best. Given that you will obtain at least 2-3 good seedlings try them in different locations.
Germination: sow in late fall/winter and provide cold/moist stratification.
