Description
I always thought about the Rattlesnake master like being a weird hybrid between a Yucca and a thistle; the leaves inherited from the first and the globular flower heads from the latter. The common name refers to its usage by Native Americans as an antidote to rattlesnake venom (boiled roots).
I have a picture somewhere but until then please see here: Eryngium yuccifolium
The Rattlesnake master needs its space and it will better keep its character when grown on the lean side. Looks great as a focal plant; it forms a taproot and dislike transplanting.
Germination: cold/moist stratification; sow in late fall/winter.
