Description
Fritillaria collina is a very beautiful small size Frit with large, broadly bell shaped, bright yellow flowers with light maroon checkered pattern. It is very cold hardy, flowering early usually in April. One of those plants that you will eagerly await to emerge. Given the small size, it can be easily incorporated in the rockery in a moist corner.
Not often seen in cultivation. Even if am not a specialist bulb grower, I manage to maintain this species in a relatively moist spot in the garden.
Germination: like for other Fritillaria the seeds germinate well when sown in early fall.
Or, provide cold/moist stratification in the fridge in moist paper towel and sow in pots at the first signs of germination. Do not prick out the seedlings (valid for all Liliaceae!). Grow it in a pot for the first 2-3 years.
