Description
Canada lily is a tall and sturdy lily that has nodding, orange flowers with brown-chocolate spots near the center. The anthers are also reddish-orange, but not as extended as in L. michiganense. Another difference is that its tepals are exerted backwards only at the tips – google images.
Another beautiful North American lily, best grown along ponds and stream edges, or in a well-watered perennial flower bed. Very attractive for the butterflies!
Germination: just like L. michiganense, it needs a warm moist period (2-3 months) during which it will germinate and form a tiny bulb, followed by a cold-moist period, after which it will send up the first leaf. In the featured image – germinated seeds after a first warm period.
