Description
The nomenclature regarding P. mascula group is quite complicated and authors not always agree between them. Some consider P. arietina to be a species by itself.
This subspecies is very similar with P. mascula ssp. mascula, just that the foliage has narrower leaflets, otherwise the same lovely peony with bright deep pink-toward red flowers (P. mascula flower color is more of a true red). Despite the native distribution, it is fully hardy in zone 5.
Like with all garden grown peonies, take it lightly when it comes to the species name because they all hybridize easily in the garden if other peonies are in flower at the same time. Nevertheless, the hybrids can be equally beautiful.
Germination: warm/cold cycles.
