Description
Tawny cottongrass is a sedge, with slender, grass-like leaves; rhizomatous in nature. The fruitheads with a shaving brush aspect of the cottonlike hairs are very ornamental in late summer-early fall, first white then slightly brownish.
A very cold-hardy, good species for naturalize areas, around the ponds; it needs a wet, acidic location.
It has wildlife value with the foliage consumed by many small and large mammals and various birds feeding on their seeds.
Germination: probably with cold/moist stratification, sow in late fall/early winter.
